In the basement of a church in Oklahoma City, 80-100 people find medical treatment free of charge, every Saturday morning. In the mountains of Nicaragua, villagers bus in to a community center where a brigade of volunteers set up a traveling clinic, and trade updates on the progress of the permanent clinic built by volunteers in Mina el Limon. Every day a student works under a Manos Juntas scholarship who otherwise would not be attending school at all. Since its founding in 1996, Manos Juntas ("Hands Together") has brought together countless people working for the common causes of health, education, and understanding across cultural and geographic boundaries. Manos Juntas is the brainchild of Dr. Boyd Shook, who is leaving his post as head of Ambulatory Care at the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City, to turn his attention to Manos Juntas.
